[LinkedIn post] Squeezed states of light
I’m excited to share my latest quantum optics simulation showcasing phase-squeezed states! Think of quantum uncertainty like a circle of possibilities around a measurement - in a squeezed state, I can “squeeze” this circle into an ellipse, reducing uncertainty in one direction while necessarily increasing it in another (thanks, Heisenberg!). This manipulation of quantum noise has practical applications in gravitational wave detection and ultra-precise measurements. In this visualization, you can see how the quantum uncertainty evolves and rotates in phase space, giving a clear picture of this fascinating quantum phenomenon.
For the mathematical details behind these states, check out my write-up here. Want to see more quantum optics visualizations? I’ve created a full playlist of simulations at here.
